ASA Junior Olympic Softball Leagues and Teams -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
| Welcome
to another season of ASA Softball! 2010 is here and plans for the season are well
underway. Each of you is invited to attend our annual Informational Meeting.
The meeting will take place Tuesday, February 2, 2010
at 7pm at the Location
Kenneth C. Aitken Senior and Community Center,
17800 Redwood Road, Castro Valley. This
year’s meeting will not be in the main room, but in the classrooms across the
hall. As you enter the building go to the right and the classrooms are on
the right hand side of the hallway. The meeting will include a review of rule
and code changes, including the new requirements for ACE certification and
background checks, tournament schedules, qualifying information and distribution
of materials, including rulebooks, scorebooks and the Pacific Coast Region
“Junior Olympic Handbook”. A meeting reminder notice will be sent approximately
one week prior. Please mark it on your calendar and try to have a representative
from your league or organization in attendance. Oakland
ASA will again register players on an individual basis in 2010. This
can be done via the “new” Register ASA at www.registerasa.com.
Several leagues also register their umpires with ASA, which can be completed
online as well. This provides each registered umpire with accident coverage of
up to $100,000 (with a $100 deductible) and
liability coverage up to $10,000,000. This
coverage applies to, during and from all ASA sanctioned activities including
games, practices, clinics and tournaments. The cost is $45
per adult umpire (age 18 and over) and $40
per youth umpire (under 18). Each umpire also receives an umpire
manual and is invited to attend our annual umpire clinic at no additional
charge. This is a very low cost method of providing your umpires with insurance,
materials and training. All adult umpires will be required to have a background
check conducted as part of their registration. | Background
checks for managers and coaches also are available. Beginning this year, any
adult that is in the dugout or on the field of play during championship play will
be required to have a background check. The background checks can be requested
when you register online and are also included when a coach gets ACE certified.
Many of you have already taken advantage of this service and we encourage
you to continue doing so, and encourage those who have not yet done so to
consider it. | Finally,
don’t forget to get your coaches ACE certified! As we already mentioned at least
one coach must be ACE certified during any ASA championship play event. Don
Amaral is available to conduct ACE Coaching Certification Clinics for your league.
